New Chamber of Commerce president elected in Mayo

Maria Staunton has been elected the new president of Castlebar Chamber of Commerce, succeeding Anne Conlon, who served in the role in 2023 - 2025.

Maria Staunton has been the Innovation Centre Manager at ATU iHub Mayo since 2004, overseeing and supporting startups throughout this time. She has successfully developed and expanded the EMPOWER Her Programme and also launched the EMPOWER Cumasú Programme in collaboration with Údarás na Gaeltachta. Maria holds a Master's by Research from ATU and actively participates in various voluntary organisations, having chaired several associations. She also coaches local underage football and basketball teams, having played these sports herself. Maria has won All-Ireland medals at various levels and captained the Mayo ladies’ team to victory over Waterford in the 2000 All-Ireland Ladies Senior Football Final. Ms Staunton has been involved in the chamber for some time, serving as membership officer, and she thanked outgoing president Anne Conlon for her service and hard work during her tenure, during which her vision and enterprise helped build a strong and inclusive local chamber. "I thank her for her leadership, drive and hard work in building one of the strongest chambers in the region” said Maria.
