Castlebar Chamber Chain of Office Sponsorship
Castlebar Chamber marked a special moment last week as the Chamber’s historic Chain of Office, which has been continuously sponsored by Pat Jennings at the TF Royal Hotel, in memory of his late father. The occasion celebrated the remarkable history and symbolism behind the Chamber’s most significant emblem.

The Chain of Office, initially commissioned in 1959, was purchased from Egan’s Jewellers in Castlebar. Since then, Paul Egan has generously maintained the piece for over six decades, ensuring it remains in pristine condition for every Chamber president who proudly wears it. The chain highlights the strong ties between Castlebar’s history, its businesses, and its people. Embodying the heritage and spirit of Castlebar, the Chain incorporates elements from the town’s crest: the castle symbolising strength and community, and the yew tree known for its longevity and resilience. Together, these symbols remind members of the Chamber’s enduring roots in the local community and its commitment to growth, resilience, and leadership. It was poignant that the photograph was taken in front of Yew Tress Café in the TF last week with two former Presidents, Pat Jennings and Bernard Hughes, current President Anne Conlon and incoming President Maria Staunton. Chamber President Anne Conlon said: "The Chain of Office is more than a symbol of leadership; it is a connection to our town’s history and to the many people who have shaped our community. Each president proudly wears this chain, aware of the responsibilities it holds and the vision of its members. I was honoured to wear this Chain of Office over the past 2 years and represent Castlebar businesses at over 80+ events. We are grateful to Pat Jennings for his continuous sponsorship of the Castlebar Chamber over the years.”
